Oceanic Procedures

The Reykjavik CTA is oceanic airspace, so oceanic clearance is required when operating within it.

Oceanic clearance is required:

  • above FL245 in Iceland,

  • above FL285 in Greenland,

  • above 7,500ft in the Faroe Islands, or

  • when leaving the Iceland, Greenland, or Faroe Islands domestic areas.

When requesting your IFR clearance, provide your requested mach number. Readback the full oceanic clearance, including the mach number and routing.

Vagar AFIS is unable to provide oceanic clearances on its own.

If Reykjavik Control is online, Vagar AFIS will make a request for oceanic clearance on your behalf. If Reykjavik Control is not online, your departure will be "at your discretion".
